Ration. CN · LOS ANGELES · EDITION 001

They hide. the gauge. We put it back on your desk.

RATION is a small, calm object that shows what your AI subscriptions are actually metering, in real time, on a screen that never closes. No menus. No dashboards. No multi-click menu journey, just to see your own usage.

Why we made it

The hard part was never the gauge.

Could you build one yourself? Probably. The parts are available, the code is open, and a stubborn weekend gets you most of the way there. If you have that weekend, honestly, go build one.

But the weekend buys you a prototype, and now you own it. Every time a provider changes something, it breaks, and you're the one patching it. That job never ends, and we carry it instead. Plus the features a weekend build never gets around to. RATION works the moment you plug it in and stays current on its own.

That's what you're actually paying for. Not the parts. Skipping all of it: the setup day, the weeks of tweaks, the upkeep. If your time makes you money, the trade pays for itself.

Effortlessness is the most expensive thing to build.

We did the building. You just get to glance.

01BEFORE · The buried gauge
Multiple menus deep,
by design.

Open the app. Click the avatar. Click Settings. Click Billing. Scroll past the upsell. There's the number. 84% gone. They didn't hide it. They made finding it tedious on purpose.

02AFTER · The gauge on your desk
One glance.
Zero menus.

You don't open RATION. You glance at it, the same way you glance at the clock. The number lives on your desk now. Always there. Always honest. Nothing to click.

The object

Built like an instrument.
Read like a clock.

RATION is a finished consumer product. Pre-paired, pre-tuned, in a matte enclosure. It belongs on the desk next to your Hario kettle, your Muji notebook, your AirPods, ready to read the moment you plug it in.

1.80"AMOLED
Think Apple Watch screen. That's the quality. Permanent visibility, calm typography, no notifications.
03
2Providers
Claude + Codex at launch.
04
USB-CPD
One cable. Pair once. Then forget it exists, until you don't.
06
OTAfirmware
We add providers as they appear. Your unit gets better, not older.
08
0Subscriptions
Hardware, not a service. Buy it once. Own it. Nothing to renew, nothing to upsell.
09
4hr battery
Unplug it and it keeps reading. Four hours of gauge on battery alone, anywhere you set it down.
10
Usagecredits
Watch your usage credits draw down in real time. You always know how much of your plan is left before it runs dry.
11
Voicecues
An optional spoken word for the moments that matter. A limit nearing, a reset landing. Calm, only when it counts.
Stays current

New models. New firmware.
A download away.

Updates come through the companion app on your computer. When a new model gets a gauge, or new firmware ships, the updater flags it. One download and your unit has it. Nothing to re-buy, nothing to send back.

01
Newgauges
When a provider or model gets added, its gauge shows up in the app, ready to push to the device.
02
Newfirmware
Fixes and features release the same way. The updater flags it, you download it, the unit takes it.

"You are being rationed.
The gauge is hidden on purpose.
We're putting it back where it belongs.
At a glance. Visible. Yours."

People who noticed first.

"Every time I needed to know my own number, it was three menus and a billing screen away. The friction was the whole point. Now the number just lives on my desk."

"Hitting the limit always felt like a surprise. The number was somewhere I had to go find, usually after I'd already hit it. Now it's just there on my desk. I notice it before it catches me."

"No notifications. No app to open. Just the number. I bought one for my partner and two for my studio and I'd buy a fourth."
